Defensible Decisions

Defensible Decisions

I believe that stability is good for a football club; that maintaining a core squad that you build on over time is a good thing; that sacking managers often achieves nothing other than a short term boost followed by instability; that being a chairman that sacks managers is a dangerous habit to fall into and that, in general, standing by your decisions is likely to bring rewards in the long term. But, and you knew that was coming, I also believe that being able to identify that you’ve made a wrong decision and having the balls to admit and act on it, is a real sign of leadership.

It’s never too late! The one thing I can safely say during Warren Joyce’s tenure is that results and performances have been all over the place. This, therefore, can be construed as a good thing too! It arguably means that in our next game we could perform completely differently.

We’ve been building up to this for a while. Regular readers and listeners will be aware of our feature where we discuss those Wigan Athletic players who covered themselves in something less illustrious than glory and the letter K has generally been thought of a fiercely anticipated contest.

Well what started as me trying to fill a page in the latest Mudhutter by arsing about on photoshop the day after going to see the new Trainspotting T2 film, has ended up snowballing into becoming the fanzine cover and then plenty of people deciding to part with some of their hard earned for a lovely receptacle

The Bux Stops Here

The Bux Stops Here

Well, Tuesday night was a turn up for the books? Or a turn up for the BUX if you prefer! (You can use that next time he scores, Mr Kendrick)

I have perhaps been guilty of lacking a bit of faith in performances away from home. It’s been evident all season that we struggle to go to big grounds especially on wintry midweek nights and carry out our plan of either dominating the play (Caldwell) or contain and counter (Joyce).
