Left foot, right foot, header v2.0 #2 – Beautiful Thing

Author: No Comments Share:

It’s Saturday kids and it’s time to try and pick you up ready for the game with a perfect hat-trick of tracks with tenuous link to goings on at Latics.  Coming of the back of four defeats, that might be a little harder than it’s been in the past, but it’s the weekend, the sun is out and the pubs are open, so let’s dance…

Left Foot – Prince Buster – Wash All Your Troubles Away

Tanks to @soultwinstu for dragging this out of the YouTube back last night on twitter.  It gives us the perfect chance for a tribute to the ska legend who died last week, but also a good starting message for you lot.

Thinks might have been a bit rubbish over the last couple of weeks, but remember you’re supposed to enjoy this so forget all that.  Go to the game, have a laugh with your mates and who knows, you might even enjoy the football too.

Right foot – Beautiful Thing – Haven

“Beautiful Things don’t die” so sings Gary Briggs in this Johnny Marr produced epic and he’s right.  It’s only four months, or so, since we were all rolling around Wigan town centre celebrating the brilliance of being promoted from League 1 and that has to give us some cause for hope.

Of course one of the big criticisms of team selection this season (whether valid or not) is a lack of consistency with last year so the news that David Perkins is fit and back in training has to be a boost to all concerned with Latics, we’ve really missed someone to play that terrier role in midfield, someone interested in getting dirty and happy to avoid the glory whilst carrying the team on his back, it could be a co-incidence that we’ve not taken a point whilst he’s been out, but it’s probably not.

On the other end of midfield, Jordi proved he’s well and truly back on Tuesday night, ninety minutes, running the game for a good chuck of them and a goal to boot.  Today might be too soon, but if we can get Jordi and Perks into our midfield three then it might well turn into a beautiful thing and, who knows, it might start the points rolling in.

“Don’t call it a come back”, and whilst results might have been less than satisfactory in recent weeks, it’s a long season and just as the past four games won’t necessarily define where we end up in May, a victory today won’t either.  It’s a start though and a decent win and a good performance will send the right message to Preston and Wolves.

Speaking of which, the eagled eared amongst you will have noticed this is the track that we closed episode 8 of the podcast with.  If you haven’t listened to it yet (it came out this Wednesday) then why not?  Here’s your chance now, just press play below.  You’ll get John Coyne talking about life as a Latics apprentice and the pains of being an Everton fan, what Ian did on his summer holidays and the latest nominations for the Latics Emporium of Sh*te and lots more.
