Having snubbed the Liverpool managerial vacancy he has committed his long term future to Wigan’s Premier sporting club. It is thought that Martinez ‘had grave reservations’ about working under the Liverpool structure and the struggling Merseyside outfit decided to plump for Swansea City’s Brendan Rodgers who seems to fit the bill of Anfield ‘yes man’.
Furthermore Martinez did not use recent events as an opportunity to bump up his personal terms, with chairman Dave Whelan saying,
“There will be no adjustment to his current deal. He moves into second year of the deal previously agreed.”
