Accrington Stanley have completed the loan signing of young Latics midfielder Rob Kiernan.

Rob, a Northern Irish Under 21’s international, snapped up from Watford in the summer, joins his Latics team mate Lee Nicholls at the Crown Ground.  The Stanley/Latics connections do not end there as manager Paul Cook is a former two time player for Wigan Athletic at Springfield Park and the DW Stadium, sees the current crop of Latics youngsters as a rich source of talent to be tapped into.

Latics manager Roberto Martinez is happy to see both players now enjoying first team football and regards them as important pieces of his future jigsaw.

Kiernan who joins Stanley until the end of the season has had previous loan spells at Yeovil Town, Bradford City, Wycombe Wanderers and Kilmarnock during his career and said of his latest move,

“I can’t wait. I’m looking forward to my first game and getting going. Hopefully we can get three points and do well.

“I think the gaffer’s been watching me for a while in a few reserve games and with Ireland and spoke to Roberto Martinez to see if I could come down and play a few games”.
