Stories are breaking tonight that Shakhtar Donetsk forward, Julius Aghahowa has been in Wigan since Wednesday ironing out his ‘dream’ move to the Premier League. The Nigerian international has apparently agreed to join Latics with only the need for a work permit holding up the deal. The 25 year old travelled about a bit in his younger years, but has been in the Ukraine since February 2001.

If you’re still thinking ‘who?’ then you should remember Aghahowa from his goal celebration, involving something like 285 somersaults.

Depending on where you look the striker has somewhere between a 1 in 2 and a 1 in 3 goal scoring record, across the League, cup and at European and international levels. It’s not that easy to work out what’s been going on with the player, but it seems he’s suffered injury problems and had a bit of a fall out with the club leading to his name being touted around English clubs.

Obviously the club will hold off mentioning the deal until the paperwork has gone through but it seems that there’s more than rumour in this one. Everything suggests that the signing may have more than a little promise. Even if Aghahowa turns out to be a dud he can always fill in with the Latics All-Stars.
