Wigan started life in the championship with an impressive win at Oakwell.  Yes a solid 4-0 win, with also a good start for their defence with Scott Carson keeping a clean sheet, an area Wigan’s Owen Coyle would be happy with. Another plus point for Wigan will be the spread of goals across the team.  More worryingly for Wigan was Owen Coyle’s Dark Shorts option for the match, but we’ll dwell on that later.

Wigan hadn’t been to Barnsley since 2002, September actually when a League Division 2 game saw Wigan beat Barnsley 3-1 with Liddell, Jackson and there’s only one Scott Green, didn’t he once get booked in a game and was still in the Dugout?  If you also remember that was the season when the reverse match at the DW a Mr Tony Dinning scored the only goal, but how many points did it mean we earned?  Answers on a post card to the TNS offices, thanks.

4 goals, opening game, Clean Sheet and 3 away points, not a bad start!  The goals came from a couple of lads making their debuts in Grant Holt & Leon Barnett.  With Shaun Maloney getting a tap in late on and it all got started with Ben ‘I won the FA Cup’ Watson.  Barnsley’s Dale Jennings debut won’t be forgot though 6 minutes he lasted before being sent off for a 2 footed lunge.

Okay I know, it’s just a summary, but I thought I’d put something up as our regular reporter has had a wrist injury due to playing Gymkhana over a pooch & it’ll be on later.

Oh & why I’m on a couple of points, you’ll probably nod your head at, being a Wigan Fan:

Anyone notice how QPR are the Manchester United of the Championship for the media!  We are top yet all the news is about ‘arry’s QPR, check the Web sites.  It’s a bit embarrassing really, when you think in Sporting Terms we WON THE FA CUP, you’d think the FA Cup holders 1stgame would trump QPR.

Also our next match is against the said team of Manchester United, in the Charity Shield, no I’m not calling it that Community Shit stuff, you still nodding?  Anyway ready for another nod, wonder and it’s a big wonder, if we get anything out of that game, reckon the Football World will sit up and take notice?
