This country may have passed you bye in all the hype surrounding WC14, since joining UEFA in May 2013 a tiny British territory have played five full internationals, their record is W1 D2 L2 F3 A7.

Their first victory game against Malta 1-0 was at Faro in Portugal,  they will have to play all their “home” matches abroad as no stadium on The Rock is suitable.

So far it has been 0-0 v Slovakia H, 1-4 Faroe Islands H,  0-2 Estonia H, 1-1 Estonia A then that sweet taste of success against The Maltese which made their opponents very cross.

Gibraltar will be playing in the 2016 Euro qualifying games in Group D against Poland, Republic of Ireland, Georgia, Germany & Scotland.

They fought long and hard with the suits in the corridors of power at UEFA to be included as a fully fledged country much to Spain’s annoyance.

FIFA is the next committee they have to convince so that they can take part in the World Cup 2018  qualifiers.

ps …. What  a great finish for the golden goal
