Whilst the “lowest ranked” team left in this cup competition is factually correct it is a little bit belittling and an insult to Bradford City and their followers.

Those with only a passing reference to what happens below the greed league with be thinking that if they get turned over then so they should, if they win it will be because “the big club” didn’t try enough, concentrating on survival blah, blah blah.

First things first, they have earned the right to be here, winning the games is what counts, not where you’re from, Bradford City deserve everything they get win, lose or draw, extra time & penalties.

Wigan Athletic have been in the exact same position not too long ago, in fact we still get condescending pats on the head from the national media even though this is our eighth consecutive season in the top flight.

After beating Burton Albion in extra time in the last round The Bantams have a record of -D-L-W-D-W-W-L

BCFC 0-1 Port Vale

Rochdale 0-0 BCFC

Dagenham & Redbridge 4-3 BCFC

Hartlepool United 0-0 BCFC : 2-3pens

BCFC 1-1 York City

BCFC 3-1 Cheltenham Town

Northampton Town 0-1 BCFC

Burton Albion 1-0 BCFC

I have only watched City on the Football League show but to me they seem to have a youthful blend coupled with some experienced heads, however at the moment they are suffering from an injury crisis at Valley Parade.

I expect a close fought game, roared on by a large fanatical support The City Gents will be looking for another plum draw in the next round, however as in Latics two other “tricky” ties both incidentally away from The DW, we ran out comfortable winners 4-1 on both occasions.

However we are in The Premier League for a reason so providing the players in blue do what they are supposed to do we should win by at least two clear goals with an honourable defeat for the hordes to take back over the M62.

But the great gods of football might just have a laugh, it does not always go to plan hence it’s the game we all love, my prediction is 3-1, I hope that doesn’t come back to haunt me especially with Halloween so close.

Last time we played Bradford City was away in a 0-0 draw back in March 2004, the home game was December 2003 with Geoff Horsfield scoring the only goal in front of 7256 spectators.

The officials on the night will be Referee Rodger East, helped / hindered by Keith Lawson, Steven Copeland and the fourth bloke who makes the tea Tony Bates.
