Canaries not singing anymore as Wigan win away

A goal from Wigan’s mercurial midfielder Kim saw Wigan win their second consecutive game (the first time since August) to move above Millwall and to within striking distance of Rotherham in the relegation battle stakes.

Wigan made one change from the side which defeated Blackpool on Saturday, fit again Leon Clarke replacing Ojo.

Norwich entered the game buoyant having won six games on the trot no doubt confident that a victory over a struggling Wigan side would be a given but they didn’t take into account a resolute Wigan Athletic side who scored a good early goal and then defended, not desperately but with discipline and commitment and fully deserved their three points.

The goal was worthy of any highlight reel when Kim following good work from Clarke, let fly with a perfectly placed volley into the net.

From then on it was virtually all Norwich but such was Wigan’s organisation and passion that they broke down all Norwich’s moves, restricting them to few attempts on targets.

Wigan looked solid and almost caught Norwich late on but in the end the homes sides nearly seventy percent dominance of possession came to naught as Wigan’s back four ably abetted by a tireless midfield thwarted their every move and the midfield tenaciously stymied the more illustrious home side leaving the home side to shoot from distance in the vain home of getting something out of the game.

The final whistle brought a tremendous roar from the small but vociferous away support as both players and fans celebrated the team’s best win of the season.
