Hello stranger

It’s catch up time again.  I’ve been having ‘technical problems’, between sorting them out, working every hour going blah, blah, yadda yadda…

I guess I’m not just not cut out for this Diary business.

Thankfully it’s been an international week and there’s been little to talk about.  Congratulations to Ryan Taylor on his impressive debut for England U21s, not so impressive for Bainesy who didn’t do enough in the game against Austria to keep his place for the Poland game.  Then again his replacement, Aston Vila’s Peter Whittingham’s slip cost the team a clean sheet, so who knows, Ashley Cole’s successor may be back for the play off games.

Elsewhere on the international scene was a fifth start for Lee McCulloch in Scotland’s first game.  His knee wasn’t up to the second game, where despite a 2-0 victory they inevitably failed to qualify for the World Cup.  Graham Kavanagh and David Connolly both saw action for Eire in the victory against Cyprus, but neither of them got a go in the crunch tie against Switzerland though; a draw there was enough to see them lose a qualifying place to the French.

Further a field Camara’s two goals against Mali were fruitful on a personal level but he’s yet another who can book a holiday this summer.  Josip Skoko travelled half way across the world with Australia to play in their latest 200-0 drubbing of a pacific island with a population of 15.  Well OK he got 40 minutes as they put 5 past Jamaica in London.  Australia are still in line for a World Cup place but the bookies won’t be taking much money on them navigating their peculiarly convoluted route to Germany.  My advice, if you see a bargain Josip, snap it up.

Back at home, a trip to JJB last week revealed the resurrection of last season’s second kit, the black one.  This time around the Patrick badge has been replaced with a JJB logo and, presumably it is minus the writing on the neck bit (I forgot to look but remember someone saying such things weren’t allowed when you’re playing with the big boys).  There’s a money-spinning marketing idea if ever I saw one!!!
