Wigan Athletic are sending a representative side to Bangor this weekend to play in a friendly as Welsh Premier League side Bangor City proudly celebrate the opening of their brand new stadium.
The game at the Nantporth Stadium, will go ahead at 2.30pm and Bangor chairman, Dilwyn Jones, is understandably thrilled, he told BBC North West Wales:
‘It has been 11 years in the making – but we are here, and that is the main thing. We’re sad to leave the old ground at Farrar Road, but I’m sure you can see the facilities here are just fantastic”.
The club have already played on their new ground and around 1,100 fans saw the Welsh Premier leaders beat Welsh Alliance side Caernarfon Wanderers 6-1 in the North Wales Coast Cup competition on Tuesday evening.
Hopefully, Latics can help the club to put on a game for the local community to remember as the years roll by.
Wigan Athletic and Bangor City share quite a few links and have actually met each other in league games on 40 occasions winning 19, drawing 10 and losing 11. Among the players to represent both clubs are…
… Nigel Adkins, Steve Appleton, David Campbell, Jimmy Carberry, Peter Corr, Frank Corrigan, Geoff Gay, Steve Johnson, Pat Kinsella, Kevin Langley, Paul Lodge, Jackie Lyon, Tony Marsden, Wally Owen, Gary Powell, Colin Russell and Henry Williams.
