Off to Pride Park again while Harry laps up the top flight.

“The FA Cup winners, The Capital One Cup winners and The Championship play off winners had to beat Wigan Athletic  en route to victory !”   seems to be all over “social media” (I hate that term, old codger I know) but it does just about sum up our season.

Not quite good enough when it really mattered, I blame the Coyle era & the lack of a quality striker for our oh so close season of disappointment.

However as our league form slumped under Owen I thought briefly about relegation and doing a Leeds or more worryingly the grim reaper of a Portsmouth demise.

Uwe sorted us out with a squad rotation philosophy that has us all guessing every game what the line-up would be each matchday but ultimately proved successful in gaining a play-off place.

I love the play-offs for providing a great end to the season, it allows more & more clubs to go to the wire instead of meaningless games but if three promotion places are up for grabs then three should go up automatically.

But ALL the clubs sign up each season knowing the small print of the t&c so can’t really complain when it goes horribly wrong in getting beat in what is essentially a mini cup competition.

The Rams must be well and truly gutted, dominated ten men Rangers for the last forty five minutes and then fell for a stereotypical sucker punch of a breakaway.

QPR’s only shot on target for all the match (please correct me but I don’t remember any others) and Bobby Zamora carefully & gleefully slotted home with aplomb.

We sacked our manager after Derby County last visited The DW, somehow I can’t see that happening again.
