Return of the saint

In a move that can only add to the frustration, nervousness and panic that is spreading amongst all Latics fans, Southampton have today recall Brett Ormerod to cover for a potential injury to **lanky streak of** (cough, sorry…) striker Peter Crouch.  Whilst conspiracy theorists will no doubt be searching for Harry nJim’s connections with Billy Davies, Joe Royle, Preston and/or Ipswich it hardly took a genius to work out that Brett would be winging his way back down south at the first sign of a twisted sock.  After all they weren’t exactly keen on letting him go in the first place.

Since his arrival Brett has offered us energy, commitment and general getting into everything that David Graham never quite managed to produce in his role as Andy Liddell’s replacement.  Whilst he only managed the one and a half goals at Leicester, his overall contribution was never in question as was Jewell’s decision to start him ahead of the Duke in recent games.

Still the link between player and club that has been hinted at since his non league days has now been forged and no doubt we’ll have lain the groundwork for a bid in the summer, hopefully no matter which division we’re in.  Until later then, bye for now Brett, it was nice whilst it lasted.
