The Empty Seats play their first gig this Friday!

Do you know where The Verve played their first ever gig?

Or what about the location where one of Wigan Athletic’s predecessors, Wigan United used to play way back in 1919?

The answer in both cases is The Honeysuckle in Poolstock and this venue is again playing host to a seminal moment in Wigan’s history

After months of song-writing, rehearsals and fine tuning, The Empty Seats, a group of Wigan Athletic fans who have written and adapted numerous songs about Wigan Athletic take their bow with a live gig at the Honeysuckle Inn, on Friday 6th May from 8.30pm onwards and consider this your cordial invite.

This gig will be FREE ENTRY by way of saying thanks to the landlord for letting the band rehearse over the past few months, although there will be both a raffle to win signed club memorabilia and copies of The Empty Seats’ debut CD ‘Bridge over Muddy Waters’ will be on sale.

The Empty Seats were always a twinkle in the eye of it’s members but it took The Anthony Ramsdale Appeal and Latics United to prompt the band’s ideas to become a reality. The concept of Latics fans making music for Latics fans to sing along to does have an ulterior motive and that motive is to raise as much money as possible for charity by selling their CD’s, priced very reasonably at a fiver.

This gig is the first in a series aimed to promote as many sales of the CD’s as possible to raise money for The Anthony Ramsdale Appeal. Next up, after this Friday, The Empty Seats move on in their tour bus to the DW Stadium South Stand Bar to play for Supporters’ Club Members before the West Ham game on Sunday May 15th.

They will also be playing at an end of season charity fund raiser as part of the third annual nostalgia night previously hosted by the Mudhutter which will again be held at the DW Stadium at a date still to be confirmed and are continuing to build up their repertoire throughout.

The key to all of this is keep buying their CD’s as ALL PROFITS GO TO CHARITY and you can buy or even download a copy of their CD online for just under a fiver at the Latics United website

Alternatively, you can get hold of a copy of ‘Bridge over Muddy Waters’ at any of The Empty Seats forthcoming gigs.

The Honeysuckle is in Poolstock on Pool Street, Wigan WN3 5BT, located close to the Wigan Investment Centre and the former Beer Engine pub. The Empty Seats and the Latics United co-operative look forward to seeing you on Friday, hope you can make it!
