Shaun, who was born in Miri Sarawak, Malaysia on 24th January 1983, was signed from Celtic for a fee of £850,000 on 31st August 2011.  His first game for the Blues was on 13th September 2011, a second round Carling Cup game against Crystal Place at Selhurst Park in which the Blues were victims of a giant killing when they were beaten 2-1.

His Premier League debut came four days later when he was a last minute substitiute for the injured Hugo Rodallega.  Latics were beaten 3-1 by Everton at Goodison Park.  As at the end of season 2011/12 he had made 8+5 Premier League apperaances for the Blues netting on three occasions, the most memorable goal of which was the winner against Manchester United at the DW Stadium on 11th April 2012!

Apart from Celtic Shaun’s only other club is Aston Villa with whom he spent an unhappy six month from January 2007 until August 2008.  Returning to Celtic after admitting to severe bouts of homesickness whilst based in the Midlands.

Maloney made his full international debut as a half-time substitute in Scotland’s 1–0 defeat to Belarusa at Hampden Park on 8 October 2005.   By 1st October 2010, he had gained 20 caps for and scored his first and only goal so far for his country in a 2–0 victory over the Faroe Islands in June 2007.

He is also eligible to play for Malaysia and has expressed his delight at being recalled for international duty following his impressive displays for Latics towards the latter end of the season.  He is expected to play some part in todays friendly encounter against the USA at the Everbank Field in Jacksonville.
