Threes Up

To score three goals away from home would usually be seen as a good day at the office, even more so when you consider Latics were facing a team who were languishing at the bottom of League One. When you see that we also conceded three goals and only got the equaliser in the last minute it makes it less of a successful day at the office and more a get out of jail card. The last minute equaliser from the in-form Will Grigg ensured that Latics stayed second and that despite a much diminished lead over their rivals automatic promotion is still in their hands.

It’s now been three games since Latics took all three points, a blip? Perhaps. A crisis? Not yet but Gary Caldwell’s side need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, Bradford could present the ideal opportunity to do that. The clubs further down the table such as Peterborough and Colchester have raised their game in recent weeks and for whatever reason that has probably caught Gary Caldwell’s side unaware. There should be no complacency ahead of facing Bradford, Latics got a hard earned point at Valley Parade back in October and since then Phil Parkinson’s Bradford have kept up their push for a play-off place.

A physical side they’re strong in the air and we have to hope that the injury to Jason Pearce isn’t too serious and he can return to the side at the weekend, many would say we missed his influence in central defence at the weekend. Gary Caldwell was quick to label Saturday’s draw at Colchester unacceptable, he’s generally been on the money in describing the side’s performances this season. Let’s hope he’s able to praise his players again after we’ve faced Bradford on Saturday.
