Toffees Come Unstuck

Everton 0-3 Latics

Wigan made the short trip to Goodison park to to take on Everton in the F.A. cup quarter final the toffees were in expectant mood before kick off but Wigan gave them a footballing lesson today

Both sides looked sprightly early on with Distin going close for Everton and Maloney striking a post from an amazing shot from outside the box, but as the half wore on Everton were getting more frustrated as Wigan did not let them play through midfield and were looking more and more dangerous going forward.

The goals came in just about four amazing minutes around the half hour mark McCarthy had a shot turned round the post by Mucha and from the resulting corner Figueroa nodded Latics in front just as Everton were trying to get going Phil Neville made a loose pass and Callum Mcmanaman was away as he entered the box Mucha came out to him and Mcmanaman coolly stroke the ball into the corner of the net to send the travelling supporters wild with delight.

Everton were now shell-shocked and latics took full advantage when Jordi Gomez finished a fine passing move by curling the ball past two defenders right into the bottom corner leaving Mucha helpless for the goal of the day if that was Lionel Messi or Gareth Bale the press would be going crazy about it.

Maloney had a free kick saved by mucha just before half time and Everton must have been relieved to get off at just three down

Wigan held strong during the opening first fifteen minutes of the second half as Everton tried to find a way back in but with the fit again Alcaraz restored to the Wigan defence a goal never really looked likely.  Despite having to defend a few corners Alcaraz was ably assisted by Scharner, Boyce, Beusejour and Figueroa as the second half wore on you could see that Latics were in control and more and more empty seats appeared in the home stands as some started to drift away as the third goal went in

Joel had to make a good save from Osman in injury time but the result was never in question a trouncing for Everton on home soil and reversal of the score from the last time these two sides met in the fa cup

So this current side have made club F.A.Cup History going at least one step further than in 1987 and we are a mere 90 Minutes away from the F.A.Cup Final.  My man of the match Alcaraz he looked so assured though I could have given it to any of the outfield players today.
