Where eagles dare

According to press reports, Emmerson Boyce will become a ‘tic tomorrow after passing a medical at the JJB this afternoon. The deal for the right back looks set to be £1.75 million, with the Palace man signing a four year contract. Boyce could make his Latics debut as soon as tomorrow night as Jewell takes his side over the Pennines for a friendly against Barnsley.

Signing a player for four years seems a little rash, especially as the club are waiting on an independent tribunal to fix a fee for Andy Webster. Jewell has today admitted that he hopes to sign the Hearts central defender who has taken advantage of the ruling that players who have served 3 of a 4 year contract can hand in their notice.

Jewell has also told the official site that he wants to bring in 3 or 4 new players before the start of the season. If Boyce and Webster represent two of those then what are the odds on the other two coming from White Hart Lane?
