Wigan Athletic vs Sheffield Wednesday – Match Preview

Author: No Comments Share:

So to the 2nd match in the festive period, as you know the TNS office in Wigan closed down before Christmas, so working from home today. So all we can report on is what’s happening in the football press. As usual the foreign managers (Van Gaal & Poyet) are moaning like crazy about the many matches over Christmas, what is it they say “If you can’t stand the heat, just Fuck off”.

It’s the 24th game in the Sky Bet Championship. Wigan Athletic will be playing Sheffield Wednesday at the DW Stadium; match will be played on Tuesday evening, with a 7:45pm kick off.

League Position, see Wigan still in the relegation zone, but 1 place higher in 22nd with 20 pts, Sheffield Wednesday are in 13th place with 31 points, top of the table are Bournemouth with 45 pts.

Looking at recent form coming into this game, the last 6 games, Wigan are 21st & Sheffield Wednesday 9th in the form table:

  • Wigan P 6 W 1 D 1 L 4 (Wins against Leeds & a Draw against Middlesbrough)
  • Sheffield Wednesday P 6 W 3 D 1 L 2 (Wins against Wigan, Blackburn & Blackpool)

Previous Games between the 2; have seen a strange quirk in the fact that over the last 2 seasons, Wigan & Sheffield Wednesday have played all 4 games in the 2014 calendar year. This game will be of course the 4th league game, with Wigan winning both games last season and Sheffield Wednesday winning 2-1 at the end of November. Previous games were covered last month in the game at Hillsborough Stadium. Overall there have been 8 games, Wigan winning 5, Sheffield Wednesday 2 with 1 draw. Thanks to Cockney Latic for the head 2 head info.

Referee from the Game will be Dean Whitestone, with Matthew Dicicco & Mark Jones on the lines & the 4th official of Steve Martin.

Dean this season has covered games from the FA Cup, Championship, League’s 1 & 2, officiated 15 games and handed out 33 Yellow Cards and 0 reds.

How the Bookies see the game, is a surprising 44% see a home win, 28% see a Draw and also 28% see Sheffield Wednesday returning back to Yorkshire with 3 points.

My thoughts on the game, well if you often read my previews; you’ll know I supported Uwe and was disappointed to see him go. Then sat on the fence for Malky, as everyone needs a chance, but with recent results turned to Darkside thoughts with supporting the #Malkyout trend on Twitter.

Malky has then gone out and picked up 3 points against Leeds & with this chance against The Owls, and with Millwall playing Bournemouth, Wigan with results going their way, could see themselves out of the Relegation zone and slowly climbing the table. Then we are back to giving Malky a Chance, but let’s see, oh we could do with the FA sorting itself out a finding a ruling too?
