First up & this is important please, please register via email, (see below) we really need to know the numbers for all sorts of reasons.

A regular event on the Latics supporters calendar has been the charity walk from the DW Stadium to the Reebok Stadium prior to our meeting with local rivals Bolton Wanderers, the event has always been a huge success, attended by many and with over £30,000 raised on the last two occasions the organisations that benefited from the generosity of those that participated, were also extremely grateful for all your efforts.

This season was to be no different, with Alder Hey Children’s Charity and the McDonald House destined to be the beneficiaries. The walk was to be dedicated to Latics fan Barry Worthington’s granddaughter Tilly who was born with an extremely complex heart condition, she is now 17 months old and has already undergone more than six heart operations and procedures, spending a large chunk of her early life in Alder Hey Children’s hospital.

Unfortunately with Sky Sports choosing the Bolton v Latics game for broadcast and bringing it forward from the scheduled Saturday to the Friday night, the walk has somewhat been scuppered, there has already quite a large amount of preparation gone into the event that I cannot allow to get wasted, so an alternative has been planned.

Walk4Tilly raising awareness of children with serious and life threatening medical conditions and hopefully raising funds for Alder Hey Children’s Charity, for research and equipment at the North West’s biggest children’s hospital will now take place on Saturday October 11th 2014.

This weekend is an international break in the football calendar, there will be no league games in the English top two divisions over the weekend, the walk will start at 10:30 am from the DW Stadium, up through Wigan town centre, onto Scholes, Whelley, New Springs where there will be a refreshment stop, then onto Haigh Hall, down through the Plantations back to Wigan Lane down Spencer Rd/Beech Hill Ave/Scott Lane and back down Stadium Way to the DW, approx 6.7 miles, finishing between 1:30 – 2pm.

It would be fantastic if you could join us on the walk, there are already quite a few signed up, bring the kids, the dog, your mates and enjoy a walk in the autumnal sunshine whilst raising awareness and hopefully funds for such a great cause.

To register please email walk4tilly@hotmail.com and you will receive a poster, route card and most importantly a sponsor form.

Thanks for your support Barry and Tilly
