All over, bar the shouting

They think it’s all over, well it isn’t just yet – but realistically will be soon. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it does it?

Sadly as the Sky commentator commented on Tuesday night even a win against Stoke will mean Latics are looking for snookers in their efforts to stay up.

The performance in the Potteries was everything Latics fans had been hoping for in matches against Swansea and Blackpool.

In true Latics fashion the win and convincing performance came in arguably the toughest match of the three, and when hope had all but been lost.

I had a bit of a spring in my step after the QPR win, I hoped that we would pull off the unimaginable and manage to get across the line.

But I also said it was wrong to expect players who have been continuously let down this season to put in the performances to get us out of this mess.

We could hope of course, but to expect would be going too far.

The Blackpool match was the final nail in the coffin for many people and keeping up with the puns the final straw (good job they have donkeys instead of camels on Blackpool beach)

I’m sure the players know what was served up at Blackpool wasn’t good enough and fair play to Shaun Maloney for fronting up, it’s not his fault we’re in this mess. That blame should be laid squarely at the board for the consecutive mistakes that have been made this season.

It’s all over bar the shouting but that doesn’t mean we won’t rise again. A season back in League One winning some games, blooding some youngsters and playing a positive style of play under Maloney could do wonders for us.

But it needs but in from those remaining players and more importantly it means none of the mistakes from the owners that have been made this season.

It could have been so different this season, it will go down as one of the worst season’s we’ve had and all of it has been self inflicted but that pain won’t last forever.

Let’s hope the lads give it their all against Millwall. It won’t be enough but it’ll certainly help us get ready for next season. It can’t be any worse than this.
