Austrian Journal part 2

Following on from Tuesday’s excellent outing in Michelhlob we drove to the match in Winklefeld and as usual we were early which gave us chance to explore yet another lovely part of a beautiful country.

Looking into the ground we spotted the grounds man who came over for a chat thinking we were Austrians. When he found out we were English, he got on his mobile and within five minutes the stadium manager arrived and offered to show us around the club including changing rooms.

The Austrians are all really friendly and have made us really welcome although it isn’t cheap over here. I noticed that there are no shutters on the shops or windows in the towns and the grounds that we have visited and when I asked why the guy replied that they don’t suffer from crime in the towns around there. It certainly seems a fantastic place to bring up children.

Before the game Jonathon Jackson spotted us and came over for a long chat. Yet again another great guy who clearly supports Martinez’s vision of building the club

The game itself was enjoyable with both teams making many changes in order to get fitness levels up. Plodiv looked a good side and it was a good workout for the Latics with Jones scoring a good goal and Boselli making it two goals in two games.

The players after the match stayed around to pose for photos and once again the locals provided excellent hospitality. Crusat was man of the match for me tonight .

Sorry for the delay in the journal but I got lost driving back to the hotel near Linz. We have already been to Bad Wimsbach where the ground is a lot bigger and the Hoffenheim game is being advertised all over the town.
