Blackburn Rovers 3 Wigan Athletic 1 – Match Report

Author: No Comments Share:

In the end Wigan were easily beaten, a 3 – 1 victory for Blackburn at Ewood Park.  Wigan could and should have won this game, but we’ve never had much luck, or generally play crap for some reason when in this part of Lancashire.

Ivan Ramis started it all off with a Chris Waddle Esq. penalty in the first half, this was after a first half that had seen the teams cancel each other out.  Only an early flurry with that man Jordan Rhodes’ heading bring out a fine save from Scott Carson.  Varney also had a 1 on 1 with Carson, but again Scott won out this duel, denying Luke opening the scoring.

Though with the first half had a little circus in the later stages.  Blackburn seeming incensed at Callum McManaman gaining (that’s the word I’ll use) after his leg seem to come in to contact with Alex Baptiste (maybe he knew he was from Bolton?)

In the end Blackburn’s protest soon turn to laughter after Ivan Ramis’ penalty hit a poor bloke in the face, they of course weren’t laughing at the ‘poor bloke’, but the fact he was in Row Z at the time. The remainder of the half saw a couple more chances for Wigan, McManaman & Boyce both having chances.

The second half was a little like waiting for a bus; you’d been waiting around for 51 minutes, then in the space of 5 minutes 3 buses Goals arrived at once.

First off on 51, was James Perch, his long range volley put Wigan in the lead, after a very stylish ‘Double Nutmeg’.

Less than 2 minutes later, Wigan were unable to clear Conway’s cross & Ben Marshall hit a 25 yard screamer in to the bottom corner, leaving Carson no chance.

Then up stepped Jordan Rhodes, well up jumped Jordan as on the 56th minute, his downward header from Conway’s free kick, giving Blackburn a 2-1 lead. In the space of 4 minutes, Blackburn had turned the game around.

Ben Marshall then finished the game off, even though it didn’t need finishing, as his curler from the edge of the box on 82, made it 3-1 to Blackburn and Game Over.

The win with Rhodes scoring his 3rd goal in as many games, takes Blackburn up to 8th, the 3rd defeat of Wigan’s season means that drop to 16th. Shall I start to mention the dreaded ‘5 points off the relegation zone’ statement just yet?
