Blackpool 4-1 Latics
Wednesday 26th August 2009
You can take positives from any game? Well to sum this one up, I stayed dry and warm, didn’t have to dash for the train and didn’t have to be in Blackpool for any period where I wasn’t being paid. I don’t think I’ve ever been really glad that I missed a Latics match, but as they say ‘there’s a first time for everything’.
On the minus side, well football wise it’s obvious, personally, I have to go to work tomorrow.
Begrudgingly, congratulations to Blackpool. If you can believe Paul Merson then they more than deserved what they got. Double praise for Ian Holloway who managed to show some humility in victory and also managed to string two sentences together without confusing anyone.
“Just about everything went right.
We ordered the rain, and it came down just as they went out for their warm-up. I am not sure how many of them actually fancied it – but my lads did. “
I’m purposefully going to avoid any real analysis of this game, it’s not going to be pretty and after Saturday you can imagine that things will be weighing heavy on the shoulders of fans who place Premier League pride high on their list of priorities. Me I’m more interested in the pride any footballer should place on the shirt and according to Martinez, there wasn’t a lot out there.
“There are certain standards that are not acceptable in our club, and the players should know that.
Certain players did not perform, and it is clear this is not what we expected. Overall as a team and as individuals, we handed the game to Blackpool. “
The question now, is what are you going to do about it?
