Just two short years ago to the day near enough, Salvador Cabrina of Paraguay was shot in the head in a bar in Mexico City.

A drugs baron called “JJ” was later arrested for attempted murder.

At the time Salvador was playing for top Mexican club America and he most certainly would have been one of the first names on the national team’s mangers list for the squad to go for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

He played for forty minutes for his home town team 12 de Octubre’s 2-0 in a league win over Martin Ledesma, thus completing a miraculous recovery.

Cabrina  was actively involved in several attacking moves for the third-tier club, and even won a couple of headers to dispel fears his injuries could limit his aerial ability.

The bullet is still in his brain, he started his professional career at 12 de Octubre, and opted to return to his boyhood club after deciding not to retire following the shooting.

Afterwards he said ….. “I never even thought about retiring. I am very happy to be back at the team where I started playing, and which now gives me the chance to make a comeback,”
