The release of last week’s financial accounts made for sobering reading for all Wigan Athletic supporters. Never again can this club be allowed to reach the state it did and never again can we allow those that don’t have Wigan Athletic’s best interests at heart to use the club in the way it had been […]
50 points, not the old school 40 points of Premier League yesteryear but 50. That’s what Shaun Maloney had pinpointed as the target for remaining in League One, in this most unique of seasons. In recent weeks, certainly since the turn of the year we’ve made huge strides in that direction with some really important […]
How do you begin to describe a night like Tuesday I’ve not really got the words, there have been some fantastic high points this season – undoubtedly some low points as well. But they would be expected in a season where we started on minus eight points and are having to re-build the club from […]
Has anybody got any fingernails left after Saturday? Talk about nervy endings to a match. Saturday was a really important result, for one Shrewsbury are close to us in the table and secondly it was a return to winning ways after two disappointing defeats against both Exeter and Oxford. Latics looked in control against Shrewsbury […]
What a disappointing week, after the highs of Peterborough and the progress made after Christmas with only two defeats since Boxing Day – one of those being the FA Cup exit against Manchester United. We were poor in the first half against Exeter but up until their opening goal we looked as though we could […]
Another casualty, another academy casualty of the ridiculous excesses put in place by our former owners be that IEC or Phoenix 21? Perhaps. This time in the form of Callum Lang, it isn’t as direct as those experienced previously but it’s still part of the same family of sad tales. There’s two trains of thought […]
You’d be forgiven for not noticing that we were currently unbeaten in the league since Boxing Day. Or that we had gained eight points from the previous twelve on offer, rising to fifth in the form table. Or maybe it’s escaped your attention that we in to the lofty heights of eleventh place. All of […]
Out of two cups in a week, one expected. One less so. There’s no dressing up Tuesday night’s defeat to Doncaster – it wasn’t good enough and I’ve no doubt Shaun Maloney will have told the players exactly that and if not Maloney then Graham Barrow certainly will have. We had a plum draw in […]
Time to concentrate on the league eh? I said I would be happy if we competed and compete we did, there was to be no 2018 style fairy tale but even being on the pitch in the first place is a fairy tale that I and many other supporters need reminding of. There was some […]
Four points from nine over the Christmas period doesn’t really tell the full story. It’s a decent return that stopped what was a bad run, turning in to a really bad run. But with players returning from injury and others stepping up to be counted, it was a lot more positive than just the results […]
