Former Wigan Athletic loanee Ian Baraclough has this week been sacked by Championship outfit Scunthorpe United.  His departure follows a 0-3 home reversal against bottom club Preston North End on Tuesday night in what was a crucial ‘six pointer’.

Ian, a former England youth international, arrived at Springfield Park on loan from Leicester City on 22nd March 1990.  His Latics League debut was on 24th March 1990 against Huddersfield Town at Springfield Park and Latics lost 1-2. His final game was on 24th April 1990 ironically that was also against Preston North End at Springfield Park. The game resulted in a 0-1 defeat. In total he made 8+1 League appearances for the club and scored once before returning to Filbert Street.

Ian had previously been the assistant manager to former Latics goalkeeper Nigel Adkins and when Adkins defected to Southampton in December last year he took over the reins.  Speaking of his dismissal Ian said,

“I am deeply saddened to be leaving and that Kevin Pressman and Steve Parkin are going with me.
I have many very happy memories of my time at Scunthorpe and I wish everyone connected with the club all the best for the future.”
