Going Halves – A response

Author: No Comments Share:

You will have noticed, or will shortly notice, that Latics players are “going halves” with the first 500 of you that purchase tickets for the Leeds game.  This is as a direct result of the actions of the Latics fans that have chosen to speak out and act against the unacceptable pricing of tickets.  Whilst the recognition of this issue by the club is to be welcomed, it’s important to think about how this sits with the original point of those fans who have chosen to boycott the game.

Namely that Leeds United are charging an unacceptable price for this football match.

This offer means that Leeds will still get their money and will be happy with the situation and it will come as no surprise that we at TNS don’t think this is right and will continue to support a boycott.

Whilst making the game affordable for a group of fans, this gesture directly undermines the intent of those that have chosen to boycott the game.  Any official encouragement of attendance is a countermeasure to the efforts of those fans who are seeking to make a genuine and important point about the price of football.  A point that the players have recognised as valid by this well intended but misplaced offer.

I’d also like to point out that I have received a response to yesterday’s open letter,  from Chief Executive, Jonathan Jackson.  I am taking some time to consider my reply and will publish both tomorrow.
