Left Foot, Right Foot, Header #5 – Blackpool Away

Author: No Comments Share:

So, a quick return to something that I started off back on notapatchon, but didn’t quite carry through, hopefully we can turn it into a bit of a regular feature here on This Northern Soul, but it wouldn’t be the first time that I’ve said that and failed.  Anyway, so you get the Left Foot, Right Foot, Header thing, don’t you?  It’s your perfect hat-trick, or less obviously it’s an excuse for me to shove some music down your throats by taking something current and drawing some kind of (hopefully not that tenuous) link back.

So here goes, given that I’m writing this on a Saturday morning, the butterflies are tingling, the sun is threatening to come out and I’m now thinking that the 10:30 train is too late, the subject is hopefully obvious.  We’re all off to the seaside and, more than anything, let’s hope we have a good time, but until then, let’s get on with the show.

Left Foot – Love reign o’er me – The Who

Quadrophenia, for many (mostly) lads of a certain age, is the defining coming of age film.  A young lad, attaches too much importance to a lifestyle, goes a bit mad, has a moment and then pulls it back from the edge.  You suspect that it started all over again for Jimmy when he got back to London, but let’s not go that far with our analogy.  Today is our standing on a cliff staring at the sea moment, we can choose to jump or we can symbolically chuck the premier league scooter off and get on with being us.

It’s early, what can I say, but I get what I’m talking about, and if you didn’t then let’s get on to something a bit more simple.  Or not as the case may be, because what you’re getting is a substitute for something that might not even exist.

Right Foot – Keeping the faith – De La Soul

Somewhere along the lines I’ve managed to dream up a Wetherall-esque remix of Keep The Faith by Bon Jovi (I think it might be the piano bit in the original that did it) but in the absence of something to give them a bit of a Mondays vibe I’ve been forced to look elsewhere.  The message is obvious and all in the title, but enjoy this funky little ditty all the same.

And finally, onto the bleeding obvious.  I have vague memories of football crowds singing this one (with suitably amended, offensive but long forgotten words) in the past, so let’s see if we can get it going today. It’s frivolous, fun and, although Blackpool have probably heard it at least 14 times already this year, should have people thinking you’re mental.

Any road, have fun and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.
