Martinez – Boselli stay is a ‘very strong possibility’.

ROBERTO Martinez insists that Argentinean striker Mauro Boselli and himself will sit down some time during the club’s Swedish training camp and sort out his future once and for all. Boselli arrived back in England yesterday in time to board the club’s flight to Sweden with Martinez insisting that there was a ‘very strong possibility’ that Boselli would remain at Latics.

Boselli, who has three years left on his contract remains in Martinez’s first team plans and it is clear that the manager has not given up on the six million pounds man. Speaking about Mauro he insisted,

“Mauro and I will be sitting down this week, and having a good chat about the future and the best options for all parties. I want to see how he is physically and how he responds to training. At the moment, staying at Wigan Athletic is a possibility – and a very strong possibility at that.

“There has been a lot of communication, a lot of talking and a lot of speculation about his future but, at the moment, that’s all it is. I wanted to sit down with Mauro face to face this week, to listen to his experiences in Italy and see how feels about the future. When I’ve done that, we’ll take it from there.”

Boselli is tipped for a season long loan move to his former club Estudiantes following an unsuccessful loan period at Genoa for the second half of last season. He is quoted as wanting to leave the DW Stadium on a permanent basis, but Martinez is anxious for him to stay, if not he wants the best deal for the player, who he rates highly, and the club.

Speaking to the local newspaper Martinez also insisted,

“You are always going to get interest in Mauro, because of his past achievements.  He is still very young, and his reputation in the game remains intact. He is an out-and-out goalscorer, and a very important asset. The Premier League is a very tough league with specific demands, but Mauro still has three years remaining on his contract and at the moment his future lies with us.

“I want to see Mauro back out there, doing what he does best – which is scoring goals and if he can do that here, great. If not, then we’ll have to take more of a longer-term view of his future. We are looking for the best solution for both him and for Wigan Athletic.”
