Amaya set for Real Betis transfer

Wigan Athletic defender Antonio Amaya is reportedly on the verge of signing for Real Betis, with a deal of around the three hundred thousand pounds mark set to tempt manager Roberto Martinez to part company with him.

He arrived at the DW Stadium as part of the three million pounds deal that brought Momo Diame to the club, arriving on the 14th August, one week before his Rayo Valacano team mate. He signed a three year deal and made his debut for the club on 26th August 2009 in a Carling Cup defeat against Blackpool who won 4-1 at Bloomfield Road, Amaya scoring Latics’ consolation goal in the last minute of the game.

He also featured in that season’s FA Cup games against Hull City (H) and Notts County (A) but failed to play a top flight game for the club. He spent last season on loan with former club Rayo and is now keen on a permanent move back to Spain and Martinez, according to Sky Sports News, has sanctioned the move.

Antonio (number 4) is pictured scoring his only goal for the club on debut.
