Liverpool won the Mersey Masters beating Bolton Wanderers 5-1 in a one-sided final.

The Horwich outfit had beaten Latics in a winner takes all match with David Lee scoring against his old team-mates in a 2-1 victory, John Doolan scored for Latics, his second goal in the competition.

He also netted in the first B group game as Latics won 3-1 against last years winners Tranmere Rovers, Andy Lyons got the other two goals.

The Wigan Athletic squad was Simon Farnworth in goal, John Doolan, Peter Atherton, Andy Lyons, Joe Parkinson,

 

Arjan De Zeuuw, John Robertson & Dave McKearney

Other Latics players involved were Stephane Henchoz (Liverpool), Ged Brannan & Sturat Barlow (Tranmere Rovers) Mike Flynn & Tony Dinning (Blackpool) along with Scott Green, David Lee & Greg Stong (Bolton Wanderers)
