Well, if England played international class football last night then half the Latics team deserve to be at the World Cup in the summer. After an average first half, they managed to ship four goals in what has to be the most spineless second half I’ve seen at that level. If that game was supposed to build confidence for the coming qualifiers then they’re screwed.
Dean Ashton was on the score sheet for the U21s the night before and I wonder how much he’s wondering that he could have taken Darren Bent’s full squad place if he’d still been playing in the Prem. We’ve been linked with him in a deal that would annihilate our transfer record, if there’s any truth in it, which I doubt. He’s a player that we should be interested in but unless he signs we’ll probably never know if we were.
