Soon to be at Stamford Bridge, ex-Atlético Madrid’s centre forward Diego Costa who is a La Liga winner but a Champions League runner-up now has a bigger fish to fry.
It is virtually unknown for a top-flight Brazilian to snub his homeland and opt for a rival nation as he did in September last year.
The Brazil coach Scolari commented ….
“A Brazilian player who refuses to wear the shirt of the Brazilian national team and compete in a World Cup in your country is automatically withdrawn.
He is turning his back on a dream of millions, to represent our national team, the five-time champions in a World Cup in Brazil.”
Diego made his international debut for The Samba Boys in a friendly match coming on as a substitute against Italy in a 2-2 draw in March 2013, his second cap was against Russia a few days later.
The Spanish FA put in a request to FIFA after he was granted Spanish nationality in the summer, it remains to be seen if he made the correct choice for his international career.
His second international debut was co-coincidentally against The Azzurri, he played all the match in a 1-0 victory.
Phil Scolari according to some half decent sources, might just rue the snubbing of the free scoring centre forward if his front men Bernard (Shakhtar Donetsk), Neymar (Barcelona), Fred (Fluminense), Jo (Atletico Mineiro), Hulk (Zenit St Petersburg) fail to deliver the goals.
