Wigan Athletic’s loanee left back, Patrick Van Aanholt has returned to his parent club, Chelsea.

Pat, who had previously featured in the Champions League for the Pensioners, was signed on a season long loan from Chelsea on 31st August 2011.  Latics became his fourth club as a loanee player, Coventry City, Newcastle United and Leicester City being the others, and he played his first game for the club on 13tth September 2011 in a Carling Cup second round game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.  The game resulted in a 2-1 defeat for the Blues.  His Premier League debut came four days later at Goodison Park, a game which also resulted in defeat, this time by 3-1.

Strangely, he never really seemed to feature in Roberto Martinez’s first team plans and he returns to London having played just three Premier League games for Latics.

Patrick is pictured here during his Premier League debut for the club.  The picture is used by permission of Bernard Platt and Wigan Athletic.
