Wigan Athletic Win Top Award but the media don’t want to know.

With all the furore of late this prestigious award has gone un-noticed by both the local & national media, mainly it is because it’s good news about our club.

The same club ( and Dave Whelan) they were ALL fawning over after deservedly beating City in the 2013 Cup Final, plus the same club that annoyed the suits of the Premier League for eight seasons.

The Wigan Athletic Community Trust were the proud winners of Community Club of the Year at the 2014 North West Football Awards, at the Lancashire County Cricket Ground on 18 November.

The Community Trust won the award following a highly successful year, in which they delivered sessions to over 8,000 young people throughout the Wigan community.

Phillip Williams, Chairman of Trustees, said:

“This award is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone at Wigan Athletic Community Trust.

“Every year the Trust is expanding its reach in schools and across the community and for us to be recognised this way is something we are very proud of.”

Amongst its achievements in the last 12 months, the Community Trust has worked with 75% of all Wigan schools, engaged with over 300 young people with disabilities, provided opportunities for 124 people to achieve sports qualifications and helped to reduce anti-social behaviour by half in select Wigan communities through the Latics Kicks.

Jonathan Jackson, Chief Executive of Wigan Athletic, said:

“As a football club Wigan Athletic is very proud of our position within the community and our relationship with supporters in the town.

“The Community Trust does a fantastic job in helping to maintain these relationships and to win an award like this is brilliant.”

thanks to the official Latics site for the information.
