Club announces live coverage and explains Stoke ticket situation

The crunch Barclays Premier League Match versus Stoke City this coming Sunday, May 22nd, will be screened in the Supporters Club Lounge in the South Stand at the DW Stadium after the club sold out of its allocation of tickets for the Britannia Stadium.

All the tickets were sold last week on a strictly one per season ticket holder, first come first served basis, and despite a consorted effort to obtain a further allocation since, no more tickets can be released before the match. Stories circulating about the club returning tickets are not true.

Wigan Athletic were initially offered two choices by Stoke City last month prior to putting the tickets on sale: either take 1,400 tickets on sale or return basis, or purchase an extra 1,400, making a total of 2,800, 10% of the Britannia Stadium’s 28,000 capacity.

With an average away following in The Barclays Premier League of around 700, and with only three 1000 plus away followings all season, it was felt that 1,400 tickets would be sufficient and at the time an additional 1400 tickets was a big financial risk.

Jonathan Jackson, Wigan Athletic Chief Executive, said: “It was impossible to predict the significance of the game at the time that we had to make a decision on tickets, and there was a strong possibility that nothing would be riding on the game, which would have had a major impact on demand for tickets.

“We sympathise greatly with supporters who will unfortunately miss out because since the decision was made, the significance of Sunday has obviously increased hugely.

“Clearly, with hindsight, we would love to have as big a following as we could on Sunday, but I’m sure that the supporters that we have there on Sunday will provide a fantastic support to the team.”

FOR THOSE WITHOUT MATCH TICKETS, THE MATCH WILL BE SCREENED LIVE ON THE BIG SCREEN IN THE SUPPORTERS CLUB LOUNGE, UNDER THE SOUTH STAND AT THE DW STADIUM, DOORS OPENING AT 2,00PM. THE GAME KICKS OFF AT 4.00PM

ENTRY IS FREE AND WILL BE ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS
