thanks to “the official Latics site”  for the press release.

Shaun Maloney scoops Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Away Player of the Season at tonight’s annual End of Season dinner.

Our great supporters and all of the fantastic people in this town helped us to create history winning the FA Cup.”

Nine awards were given out at tonight’s End of Season dinner, with Shaun Maloney taking three of the titles.

Maloney’s haul included Away Player of the Season as voted for by the Wigan Athletic Supporters’ Club, Players’ Player of the Season presented by Emmerson Boyce and to finish his collection he was given Player of the Season by last year’s winner Gary Caldwell.

Callum McManaman was awarded Young Player of the Season and presented his award by James McCarthy, with Under 18s’ forward Joey Johnson collecting the Michael Millett award.

There was no surprise that Performance of the Season and Goal of the Season had the running theme of the FA Cup, as Ben Watson’s header was voted for by guests on the night and Latics’ performance against Manchester City in the final was also commended.

Arouna Kone picked up the Golden Boot award for his 13 goals in total over all competitions and Roberto Martinez presented a special award to all Wigan Athletic supporters, which was picked up by the family of the late Tom Gill who sadly passed away just before the FA Cup semi-final with Millwall.

There were laughs and tears at the dinner this evening but the final word fell to Chairman Dave Whelan who said:

“Our great supporters and all of the fantastic people in this town helped us to create history winning the FA Cup and we will now be trying our hardest to make sure that we get back into the Premier League at the first attempt.”
