Who’s the footymon? Whelan or Ayre?

TNS would like to back their club’s chairman over a recent spat with Liverpool FC’s font of all football knowledge Ian Ayre.

Mr Whelan, who apparently knows nothing about the English football scene, spent his entire football career playing in all four divisions with Blackburn Rovers and Crewe Alexandra.  He is also a FA Cup Finalist  and been the chairman, a proper football position, of Wigan Athletic since February 1995, during  which time the club have played in all four division as well!

The club is on the verge of being self sufficient and owes less than twenty five million pounds to debtors.

In addition, he has overseen the building of a new stadium for Wigan Athletic, something that a long succession of Liverpool FC managing directors have been unable to initiate, and saved a Wigan rugby club from ground sharing with second tier football outfit, Bolton Wanderers  at the Reebok Stadium.

Ayre, who was apparently head hunted by those two former Liverpool FC devotees George Gillette and Tom Hicks has no English football experience whatsoever and was appointed the club’s managing director in March 2011. He has overseen the spending of well over one hundred million pounds which has been added to Liverpool FC’s two hundred and twenty million pounds of debt.

In all fairness though, the world famous club built by former Liverpool legemds, did beat Championship outfit Cardiff City on penalties to win a third rate English trophy that nobody takes seriously until the Final.  They have also been unable to beat Wigan Athletic during all Ayre’s time in his hallowed position.

Oh and no new stadium!

When it comes to talking football, not to mention business, who would you rather take advice from?
