Wigan Athletic – Austria bound

Author: No Comments Share:

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez and his charges will be jetting off to Austria on Sunday for another seven day training camp, similar to the one held in Sweden last week.

Martinez has already put the squad through 25  fitness sessions and a 70 minute game against Swedish outfit Ostersunds, a game that resulted in a 1-0 win for the Blues.

The training camp in Austria will see the squad step up their preparations for the new season and team tactics will be the order of the day as Latics will take on three local teams in a bid to build up the intensity that Martinez wants to see from his team all next season.

Speaking of plans for when the club return to these shores Martinez insisted,

“We’re still looking to finalise a couple of friendly matches after we get back and that will help us gain the sharpness we need for the opening game against Chelsea.”

The photograph, used by kind permission of Bernard Platt/Wigan AthFC, shows new boy Fraser Fyvie hard at work at Christopher Park.
