Delphic in Liverpool and Club Nirvana Wigan date added

OK so we weren’t overly prophetic when we at  The Pie At Night  spoke of what will be for Delphic in 2010,  granted , many had been speaking for about a year or so. They were given “New Band of the Day” status by The Guardian back in October 2008 who had them as so close to New Order it was nearly “Oasis-do-the-Beatles karaoke”. Bit harsh really after a good few listens to the album , which made No.8 , I had it more as TheBeloved-do-the-TheKillers but then again I am a bit wierd.

So after the Glow-sticks and Haciendrix Dance movers of the Manchester Club Academy gig 3 months before – What was different this time?  No sticks , no dancing , No bloody room that’s what. The scouse Acolytes are following , along with clusters I spoke to from Leeds , Blackburn and Wigan who had all decided on this wonderful venue in a rainy bohemian backstreet.

The Kazimier is a kind of Octagon Theatre place , both posh and shabby with a balcony , fancy draped ceiling , you can go for a smoke out the back and get back in (that’s novel!) and they force you to drink Red Stripe, I mean, what more do you want.  A 500ish sell-out left little or no bodily clearzones , “No Kev I’m not pleased to see you it’s my beer”.  Definitely worth a visit for a less popular band.

Supporting was Mirrors , Synthy Art – Pop ,with a touches of  OMD , Depeche Mode sort of stuff , a little morose but they did have Jimmy Carr on one of many Keyboards.

Delphic, again stuck to the script, The Album in just under an hour. Well rehearsed , polished , smart performances are the order of the day here. The singles Counterpoint and Doubt get the obvious big response,  Halcyon is superb and the hypnotic finisher Acolyte trances us out for a good ten minutes. So another great value gig at a fiver but this is sure to and in fact has already doubled and will again very soon.

Catch Delphic at Wigans’ Club Nirvana for £9+ bits on 10th March.
